Strong hands. Big heart.

A chiropractor saved me from being "benched" from sports in high school by taking a "hopeless" injury and turning it around. That was my introduction into the power of natural solutions for health. When my family medical doctor could only offer me pain killers and restrictions in reaction to my injury, a local chiropractor offered me solutions! That made a lasting impression on me that ultimately effected my career path. I was a pre-med student at Cornell University when I made a conscious decision to explore alternatives in personal growth and in healthcare, instead of moving forward into a conventional medical education. My experience with a chiropractor in high school was one factor in my decision. Another was my long struggle with allergies and my growing disillusionment with the heavy pharmaceutical emphasis of the medical/allopathic model of disease treatment. I worked with alternative practitioners who employed thoughtful investigation into the cause of my allergies, rather than simply treating the symptoms, and helped me with natural solutions in a way that years of shots and drugs could not.

Around the world and back home again.

After college, I traveled extensively in India, Asia and Central America living with local people and learning about different cultures, approaches to healthcare and spirituality. It was an invaluable experience that left a lasting impression on me. I returned home, after nearly two years of travel, to pursue my goal of becoming a natural health practitioner. I attended Life College in Atlanta, where I earned my Doctorate in Chiropractic, then returned to my home town, New York, to mentor with a leader in the field of nutritional kinesiology, Fred Ulan. Dr. Ulan later turned over his New York City practice to me. I was honored to be his protege and be trusted to take good care of his patients of many years.

I take care of you the way you'd want to be taken care of.

My business card says "natural solutions for health" and that's what I have always been committed to—finding those solutions and empowering others to take control of and responsibility for their well-being. Since being in practice these past 10 years, I have helped thousands of people regain and rebuild their health through safe, natural supplementation, lifestyle changes and expert chiropractic care. My practice is mostly a "word of mouth" practice because once I take care of people they want their family and friends to come in too. "You're going to love Dr. Doug" is what I strive to have people say to others when they leave my office, and so far, I'm happy to say, they do!

Meet the family

We live in Hunterdon County, New Jersey amidst miles and miles of preserved farmland and quaint historic villages. We love access to the wonderful national park near our home and all the fresh local produce and meats from working farms in our neighborhood. My wife, Rachel is a writer, chef and amazing mom to our two kids, 3 dogs and 2 cats. My son, Max, 20, is a student at The Culinary Institute of America, and I have no doubt that he is "Top Chef" material. I have always admired my son in many ways, but now that he's 6'5" I really look up to him! My daughter, Lily, 13, is an honor student and great athlete who plays Lacrosse, Basketball and runs Cross Country. Her dream is work for a top fashion magazine one day as a stylist or writer.

Walking the walk

I'm so lucky to have my practice be a part of the Longevity Health Center where I am one of many gifted practitioners sharing this beautiful space. It makes it very convenient for me to get regular chiropractic care for myself from one of my colleagues. Like many of my patients I use my body in my work and it's important for me to stay strong and injury free. Regular chiropractic care is essential for me to have longevity in my field.

I work out regularly in a local gym in the Chelsea area around the office. It keeps me fit and connected to my local community too.

Dr. Doug Asks some important questions of interest to New York residents - Chiropractor New York Dr. Doug Asks...

How do you know when you're healthy?
Ask most New York residents this simple question and you're likely to hear, "When you feel good" or "When you're at your proper weight for your height" or "When you have lots of energy and vitality." Great answers. But our chiropractic patients know that true health is when your body is working as it was designed. True health is how you function, not how you feel.
What is the significance of "growing pains?"
Chiropractors know that aches or pains at any age mean something's not right. In fact, many children go through stages of growth without aches or pains. So while "growing pains" may be common, they're not normal. That's why our New York chiropractic practice sees lots of children. A chiropractic checkup for your child can often help detect and correct problems that are more difficult to correct in New York adults.
